Joining the Fort Worth/Mid-Cities Chapter of the Association for Talent Development has been the most exciting career development I’ve done thus far. My journey into the Learning and Development started with training new hires and enjoyed watching their growth from novice to expert in their position. Attending the chapter meetings has fed my thirst for knowledge on how to help adults retain information by giving them meaningful chucks of information that allows them to process the information and provide activities to reinforce what they learned. The chapter has covered a plethora of topics and e-learning SIG’s that has been beneficial to me like; Jumpstart your Microlearning Program, Emotional Intelligence, Employee Engagement the Southwest Way, Owning your Skills of Influence and more. It has taught me how to look at this industry as a whole so I can better server new trainees I come into contact with. This year I’ve had the privilege of joining an amazing board of directors as the VP of Communications that are always looking for better ways to serve the members of Fort Worth/Mid-Cities chapter. I’ve learned so much about leadership from all of them as well as the members and guest speakers that attend the meetings. The Board members are friendly and very welcoming to everyone and if you want to volunteer, they’re more than happy to have you on the team.
